Description
The TSD-1 Smoke Detector uses our popular FMT-PET transmitter to remote sense a fire. With the smoke detectors built in transmitter you can link the smoke detector to your alarm system, thus alerting other people to a fire alarm.
The smoke detector is operational once the battery is connected. By pushing the test button on the detector for at least two seconds an alarm signal is generated. You can also test the detector by blowing smoke onto it. It is recommended that you test the smoke detector weekly.
The smoke detector is powered by one 9-volt battery. The battery should last for one year under normal conditions. The smoke detector has a low battery indicator, an audible “chirp”. It will operate at 30-40 seconds intervals for a minimum of 7 days. Replace the battery when this indication occurs.
The TSD-1 smoke detector is designed for easy installation on a wall or ceiling. A complete mounting kit is included with the detector. No wiring is required.
Recommended installation locations of TSD-1 smoke detector
Locate the first detector in the immediate area of the bedrooms. Try to protect the exit path as the bedrooms are usually farthest from an exit. If more than one sleeping area exists, locate additional detectors in each sleeping area.
Locate additional detectors to protect any stairway as stairways act like chimneys for smoke and the heat.
Locate at least one detector on every floor level.
Locate a detector in any area where a smoker sleeps or where electrical appliances are operated in sleeping areas.
Smoke, heat and other combustion products rise to the ceiling and spread horizontally. Mounting the detector on the ceiling in the center of the room places it closest to all points in the room. Ceiling mounting is preferred in ordinary residential construction. However, in mobile homes, wall mounting on an inside partition is required to avoid the thermal barrier that may form at the ceiling.
When mounting detector on the ceiling, locate it at minimum of 15cm (6”) from a sidewall and 0.51 metres (2 feet) from any corner.
When mounting detector on a wall, use an inside wall with the detector a maximum of 15cm (6”) below the ceiling and at least 0.51 metres (2 feet) from any corner.
To indicate alarm situation, receiver should be set to latching mode.
Do not install the TSD-1 smoke detector in
The kitchen – smoke from cooking might cause an unwanted alarm.
The garage – products of combustion are present when you start your automobile.
In front of forced air ducts used for heating and air conditioning.
In the peak of an “A” frame type of ceiling.
In areas where temperature may fall below 5C or rise above 45C.
For technical specification on the transmitter refer to FMT-PET data sheet. Please note when FMT-PET installed with TSD-1, the transmission pulse is 1.5s.
